A cross between two phenotypically identical indivisuals results in 2/3 of the progeny resembling the parents, and 1/3 with a different phenotype. Which of the following best explains these results?
A-Incomplete Dominance
B-Epistasis
C-Dominant lethal
D-Reccesive lethal
E-Polygenic inheritance
Biology Question!?
none of those. Incomplete dominance would yield 1/4 for phenotype that represents the dominant gene, 1/2 whatever the heterozygous condition would be, and 1/4 the phenotype that represents the recessive condition.
Epistasis is when an allele can influence genes at a different location. Albinism is the classic example.
Dominant lethal means if you have the dominant gene - you have the lethal disorder. Huntington's is an example of this.
Recessive lethal means that you have to inherit a recessive from each parent and the combination is lethal.
Polygenic inheritance just means that there are many genes that influence a given trait. Skin colour or hair colour are polygenic.
