Which of the following was not an idea that Darwin advanced in his works?

a) new species arise by natural selection

b) species change over time

c) Living species have arisen from earlier life forms

d) modern species arose through a process known as "descent with modification"

e) new species can form by inheritance of aquired characteristics

Which of the following was not an idea that Darwin advanced in his works?
E is the answer. This is called Lamarkian evolution. Lamark thought acquired characteristics could be inherited (like if your break your leg your child will be born with a broken leg). He really didn't use that example but it does follow from his ideas.
Reply:Probable E
Reply:Answer is E

I know b/c I just learned about this in my biology class! I think this was one of my question on my worksheet. E is correct b/c I got it right!
Reply:E is the best answer, but this question was written by someone who does not have extensive knowledge of Darwin's work. Although inheritance of acquired characteristics was not a major component of his system(s) and does not receive much attention nowadays, if you read him thoroughly you will find that his ideas about heredity included what he referred to as 'pangenesis,' which is precisely that.
