the first question's answer is B.





It is not D because diversity of life-forms doesn't result from inheritance of acquired characteristics. acquired characteristics is like gaining muscles from weight-training. that is not going to be passed down to your offspring. what creates new gene variety is random mutations. because of differences in genetics, some individuals are more likely to survive and reproduce (greater fitness) so they leave more offspring and their genes are passed down, causing the population as a whole to evolve.





the second question's answer is D, so you're correct. change of weather causes different seeds to be available, therefore, different beak sizes would be naturally selected. however, it is important to note that individuals do not evolve, it is the population that does. the fittest leave the most offspring and passes down their genes, the least fit will either not survive or they won't be able to pass down their genes.
